Focus Areas

Through our efforts to understand what contributes the most to the well-being of our community, we have identified four focus areas that need the most attention and support. Naturally, we expect that our focus area(s) will evolve over time as our community changes.

Addiction Treatment, Prevention and Mental Health

Opioid Crisis.JPG

Our opioid crisis challenges are complex and solutions are elusive. We do our best to add a citizen’s perspective as we partner with groups such as Waterloo Region Integrated Drug Strategy, Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council and Waterloo Region Public Health. We also work closely with staff and elected officials at both the city and the region in an effort to include a citizens perspective in critical decisions. If you have expertise in this area, now is the time to consider getting involved . . .

Homelessness, Affordable Housing and Supportive Housing

A home has the potential to save a life. We promote awareness on the issue of homelessness and that we need a critical mass of people to undertake action. We enthusiastically support Wellbeing Waterloo Region's initiative of All In 2020 working in cooperation with HHUG. All In 2020 is our community’s plan to find housing for people who have been homeless the longest and experience the most complex needs. We do our best to add a citizen’s perspective as we partner with groups such as The Bridges, Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank, Cambridge Kitchen, HHUG and Wellbeing Waterloo. If you have expertise in this area, now is the time to consider getting involved . . .

Vitality of the Downtown Core

The health of our downtown(s) is both a reflection of and symptomatic of the health of our City. It is critical that efforts be made to understand what is causing our difficulties (in downtown Galt particularly), and to determine what steps can be taken to help. We do our best to add a citizen’s perspective as we partner with groups such as the Galt BIA, Cambridge Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Property Owners Group. We also work closely with staff and elected officials at the city in an effort to include a citizens perspective in critical decisions. If you have expertise in this area, now is the time to consider getting involved . . .

Public Safety

Key issues include the safety and security of residents in their neighbourhoods, school yards, and community parks. We do our best to add a citizen’s perspective as we partner with groups such as the Waterloo Region Police and Cambridge Ambassador Program. We also work closely with staff and elected officials at the city in an effort to include a citizens perspective in critical decisions. If you have expertise in this area, now is the time to consider getting involved . . .
